Modernise your website, for less than you pay now.

Small organisations and individuals in New Zealand are paying too much for outdated websites. I upgrade yours, at a fraction of current industry pricing.

Who this is for

A fresh look. A lower bill.

Is your website looking dated? Locked into USD pricing on Squarespace or Wix? Weighed down by feature overload you don't need? I fix all three — rebuilding your existing content into a modern design, with a simple admin panel so you can update what matters yourself. Need bigger changes down the line? I'm here for that too.

No surprises

Simple pricing, starting at $350 NZD

Rebuild

$350 NZD

Base rate for a standard rebuild. Extra features are quoted individually, agreed before work starts.

  • Modern, mobile-friendly design
  • Self-serve admin panel — update your own text and images anytime, no coding needed
  • AI discoverability, built in — structured so tools like ChatGPT and Google's AI answers can find and recommend you
  • No arbitrary page limit — unlike typical agency packages

Ongoing

$100 NZD/yr

Hosting, security, and domain management. Compare that to what you're likely paying now.

Prefer to keep paying your domain registrar directly yourself? That's fine — the retainer drops to $80 NZD/yr for hosting and security alone.

Extra features — online payments, member logins, bookings, and similar — are quoted individually and agreed before any work starts, same as unusually large sites. Prices shown exclude GST.

Common questions

Before you ask

Why can you undercut industry pricing so much?

Modern development tools have gotten dramatically better and faster in the last couple of years — faster than most agencies have changed how they price or work. I build on top of that efficiency and pass the savings straight through instead of pocketing them as margin. Bigger agencies are also built around bigger retainer clients; restructuring their pricing for a small organisation or individual customer just isn't worth it to them, so those savings never make it to you there.

What does "AI discoverability" actually mean?

More people now ask tools like ChatGPT, Google's AI answers, or Claude things like "when is X performing next" instead of searching and clicking through to a website. Most small sites aren't built in a way those tools can reliably read — every rebuild includes the structured data (a standard called schema markup) that helps them find and use your information directly. It's a modern step almost nobody in this market is doing yet.

Why is a self-hosted site actually cheaper than Squarespace or Wix?

Squarespace and Wix bundle hosting, their editing software, and support into one subscription you rent every month, forever. A rebuilt site runs on plain, modern web infrastructure (Cloudflare, Netlify) that's free or near-free for the traffic a small organisation or personal site gets — those platforms make their money from much bigger customers. You're no longer paying for a big monthly software subscription, just the small, real cost of keeping a simple site online.

How can you charge less than a web agency, and still give me more control?

Agencies often price by the hour and keep you on their own managed hosting or CMS, which gives them an ongoing reason to keep billing you. Since the underlying infrastructure costs are near zero, my main cost is time, not software licensing or hosting margin — so there's nothing to pad the fee with. I'm also one person, not an agency with account managers and overhead built into the price. On control: you own your domain and content outright, not a platform's version of it.

Who owns my website and content afterward?

You do — your content and your domain are yours outright, in writing, from day one. I retain rights to the reusable tooling behind the admin panel itself, but nothing about your own site locks you to me.

What does "fewer security holes" actually mean?

There's no database or CMS software (the kind WordPress needs constantly patched) sitting underneath your site for someone to target — a whole category of attack simply doesn't apply. Cloudflare and Netlify handle the security of their own infrastructure at a scale no small site could afford to replicate on its own. It's not a guarantee nothing can ever go wrong, but it does remove the most common ways small-business sites get compromised.

How do I update or edit my site going forward?

Day-to-day stuff — text, photos, basic content — goes through your own admin panel, no code or technical knowledge required. For anything bigger, just ask me directly. I'm happy to make a few small tweaks a year at no charge, but anything beyond that gets quoted properly before I start.

Will this affect my email or my Google ranking?

Email is handled carefully through the migration and typically nothing changes for you day to day. Search ranking is protected the same way — page structure and addresses are preserved during the move, and the new site is usually faster and better set up for how search works now than what it's replacing.

Is there a bad time to switch, like partway through my current hosting or domain term?

No — the rebuild and handover don't depend on your billing cycle, so there's no need to wait for a "clean" start date. If you're partway through a prepaid hosting plan or website-builder subscription, switching now just means that remaining time goes unused rather than being wasted sitting around for a few more months on the old site. The one date worth keeping in mind is your domain's renewal, so we can make sure it doesn't lapse mid-move — otherwise, any time works.

What if I want to make larger changes at some point in the future?

Just ask. Anything beyond small edits — new features, integrations, a redesign — is scoped and quoted separately, in writing, before any work starts. And because you own your domain and content outright, you're never obligated to come back to me for it either.

Why trust TORQ WEB with my website?

It's hands-on experience, not a claim — I've been doing high quality rebuilds in the arts and community events space. Being a one-person, boutique operation also means you're dealing with the person who built your site, not a support queue.

Who's behind this

Hi, I'm Carl.

I built my first two websites back in 2000 — a music database and a homepage for my high school band, The Croutones. Since then I've become a professional orchestral musician, currently with the Auckland Philharmonia.

As a full-time musician, web development ticked along as a fun yet tedious hobby. But in 2026 the limiting factors for a custom web designer have been shattered — frontier AI tools have laid the industry completely bare and ready for disruption. Technical skill and raw hours are no longer the bottleneck, so my development time is now highly productive and creative, with professional-grade results, while costs have plummeted.

I've seen this tectonic shift first-hand with my own projects, and I'm excited to share it with individuals and small organisations who are paying far too much for an old-fashioned website.
